John E. Jerge joined AAM in March 1994 as Area Manager at AAM's Buffalo Gear, Axle & Linkage plant. He was named Manufacturing Manager in 1996 and appointed Plant Manager of AAM's Buffalo Gear Axle & Linkage plant in November 1997. Jerge was appointed Plant Manager of AAM's Detroit Gear & Axle plant in March 2000. He was named Director, Labor Relations in January 2003 and Executive Director, Labor Relations in April 2004. Jerge was appointed Vice President, Human Resources in September 2004; Vice President, Driveshaft & Halfshaft Business Unit in October 2008; and Vice President of Labor Relations in June 2009. He was named Vice President, Quality, Labor Relations, Materials & Logistics in September 2009 and assumed his current position in November 2010.

Jerge began his automotive career at the former Chrysler Corporation in 1984 as a college-graduate-in-training and progressed through a series of manufacturing management positions including Production Supervisor, Process Conformance Auditor, Production Planner, Maintenance Supervisor and Production General Supervisor.

He holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan and a master of business degree with a concentration in Finance from Wayne State University.
