Kevin M. Smith joined AAM in March 1994 as Manufacturing Engineering Manager at Buffalo Gear & Axle and was appointed Manufacturing Manager at Detroit Gear & Axle in 1996. During his time at AAM, Smith has served as a Plant Manager at Three Rivers Manufacturing Facility, Buffalo Gear Axle & Linkage and Guanajuato Manufacturing Complex. He has also held various engineering management positions with increasing responsibility including Director of the GMT 900 program, Executive Director Manufacturing Engineering and Executive Director, Axle Engineering. He also previously served as Vice President, Mexico and Executive Director, Advanced Programs, Cost Reductions & Productivity and Vice President, Program Management & Launch.  Smith assumed his current position of Vice President, Driveshaft Business Unit on December 1, 2011.

Smith began his automotive career at the former Chrysler Corporation in 1984 and progressed through a series of manufacturing management positions including launch manager, engineering manager and area manager.

He holds bachelor and master of science degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan and a masters degree in business administration from Eastern Michigan University.
