Engineering Process & Methodologies

  • Product Life Management (PLM) - Up-front analysis, incorporating systems that correlate customer requirements with internal design costs, including robust design and manufacturing.
  • Simulation - Develops algorithms, control strategy and theories to develope electronics and firmware that replicate true vehicle dynamics, thus yielding an understanding of vehicle performance.
  • Correlation - By comparing "real road" data with simulation modeling, NVH characteristics are managed.

  • Analytical Validation - Used in development of our front axle with integrated oil pan (IOP), for example, can accurately predict product performance; shorten product development schedules; and reduce prototype testing.
  • Mass Optimization Methodology - can identify areas of mass reduction without sacrificing structural integrity.
  • NVH Prediction - can accurately predict driveline dynamics; finite element analysis is used to improve design before prototype is made.
  • Advanced Math Modeling - Using advanced 3D math modeling systems such as CAD, CAM and CAE in the early product development phase, AAM is able to analyze and optimize final results of our end product.  This provides our customers with timely world-class quality products and systems.
